How Websouls Helped a 30-Year-Old Insurer Restore Email Reliability

For a while, Security General Insurance Company Limited (SGI) was dealing with a problem that wasn't immediately obvious, but it was affecting an important part of the business.

Policy confirmations weren't landing. Claims updates were sitting in some invisible queue instead of reaching customers. And for an insurer that has been underwriting risk across Pakistan since 1996, that's not a technical footnote. It's the difference between a policyholder trusting you and a policyholder assuming you went quiet on them.

SGI: Three Decades of Building Trust

Security General Insurance Company Limited has served individuals and businesses across Pakistan for nearly 30 years. Its portfolio covers a broad range of insurance products, including motor, home, liability, marine and aviation, engineering, crop and livestock, miscellaneous insurance, and bonds. The company also maintains a 24/7 customer support service and publicly shares its certifications as part of its commitment to transparency and compliance.

In insurance, trust depends on communication a customer can count on. Policy information, claims updates, and support need to reach people when they need it. When email delivery becomes unpredictable, that trust takes the hit.

The Problem Was Bigger Than Delayed Emails

SGI's infrastructure was running on shared hosting through cPanel, and on the surface, there was nothing unusual about it. That's what made the problem difficult to trace.

Shared hosting means sharing an IP address with websites you've never heard of and can't control. If one of them gets compromised, sends spam, or ends up running a malicious script, the entire IP's standing can take the damage, and every domain riding on it goes down with it. Combine that with a possible password compromise on top, and SGI was left with deferred emails, IP blocking, and a domain reputation that mail servers had started treating with suspicion by default.

Nothing about SGI's operations had caused this. Their infrastructure had simply been outpaced by how much correspondence a company their size now depends on.

Understanding the Cause Before Changing the Solution

Before recommending any technical changes, we spent time helping the SGI team understand how their existing email environment worked and why it was no longer the right fit for their business.

Rather than suggesting a complete migration straight away, we focused on what their teams actually needed every day.

The first step was moving their hosting environment from shared hosting to a Virtual Private Server (VPS), giving them dedicated resources, greater control, and an infrastructure that wasn't influenced by activity from unrelated websites.

Alongside the migration, we implemented additional server-level checks and custom scripts based on SGI's operational requirements instead of relying solely on standard configurations. The goal wasn't just to move servers. It was to build an environment that could support a business where reliable communication carries this much weight.

Not Every Inbox Needed the Same Solution

Moving every email account to a premium platform would certainly have improved deliverability, but it would also have increased costs without delivering proportional value.

Instead, we designed a split email solution.

Business-critical accounts responsible for customer communication were moved to Google Workspace, where high deliverability and reliability were important. Remaining email accounts continued to operate through cPanel, allowing SGI to retain the flexibility of its existing environment while avoiding unnecessary licensing costs.

This approach ensured that the emails that mattered most were delivered consistently without requiring every mailbox to be migrated. To strengthen business continuity further, both local and remote backup systems were configured, providing an additional layer of protection for important business data.

The Outcome

Once the new environment was in place, the difference was noticeable.

Email delivery became consistent, deferred messages were resolved, and the domain's overall email performance improved significantly. Communication with customers became more dependable, allowing the team to focus on serving clients instead of troubleshooting delivery issues.

Just as importantly, the solution remained cost-effective by matching the technology to the company's actual requirements instead of replacing everything with a more expensive alternative.

What SGI Had to Say

"We appreciate the quick response and professional support throughout the project. The team understood our requirements, explained the root cause of the issues clearly, and delivered a solution that worked for our business. Since the implementation, our email performance has improved significantly, and communication with our customers has become far more reliable."

Why the Solution Worked

Every business communicates differently, and every infrastructure has different requirements.

Instead of recommending a one-size-fits-all approach, we started by understanding how SGI used its email systems, where the challenges were occurring, and which communication channels were most critical to the business.

By combining VPS hosting, a carefully planned split email environment, custom server configurations, and comprehensive backup strategies, we delivered a solution that improved deliverability, strengthened reliability, and remained practical from both an operational and cost perspective.

Sometimes the right solution isn't the most expensive one. It's the one that's built around how the business works. - Sajawal Baig

If your team is running into deferred emails, IP blocking, or a shared hosting setup that might be working against you, we're happy to take a look and walk through what's actually going on. Sometimes the cause is smaller and less costly to fix than it looks from the outside.
