When a university website is a main source of information for students, applicants, and faculty, reliable access is important. For Qarshi University, visitors began experiencing difficulty reaching the website from certain networks, making important information harder to access.
The issue was not affecting everyone, but its inconsistent nature made it particularly difficult to identify and resolve. What appeared to be a simple website accessibility problem was linked to the hosting and network configuration.
A Problem the Previous Host Would Not Resolve
Qarshi University’s website worked for most visitors, but users connecting from certain IP addresses could not open it. The university had reported the issue to its previous hosting provider, but no fix was made.
With the problem continuing, the university approached Websouls to investigate the website and its hosting environment.
What We Found When We Investigated
Our technical team assessed the website and its hosting environment and found two separate issues.
The first was an incorrect network configuration that was preventing users on certain IP addresses from reaching the website.
The second was resource congestion on the server. This was separate from the access problem and was affecting the resources available to the website.
We explained both issues to the university and recommended moving the website to VPS hosting to address the resource congestion and give the website an environment that could be configured around its requirements.
Moving the Website to Websouls VPS
The university asked us to migrate its website to Websouls, and we carried out the migration free of charge.
We moved the website and its required services to our VPS. Once the migration was complete, our team corrected the network configuration and optimized the new hosting environment.
The work involved:
Correcting the Network Configuration
We identified and corrected the network configuration issue that was preventing users on certain IP addresses from accessing the website
Optimizing the Web Server
We adjusted the web server configuration according to the website’s requirements to improve performance, stability, and resource utilization.
Optimizing the Database
We reviewed and adjusted the database configuration according to the website’s requirements to improve performance and resource efficiency.
Addressing Resource Congestion
We moved the website to a VPS environment with sufficient resources to reduce congestion and improve overall hosting performance and stability.
Hardening the Server
We applied essential server security hardening measures to strengthen the hosting environment and improve its overall security and reliability.
Testing the Environment
We tested the website from the previously affected networks and reviewed the complete server environment to confirm the implemented changes.
What Changed for Qarshi University
The website became consistently reachable from the networks that could not access it before.
The web server and database optimizations also improved resource utilization, performance, and stability. The VPS environment provided the resources needed for the website without the congestion found on the previous server, while the security hardening reinforced the overall server environment.
Qarshi University was able to resume normal website operations on a hosting setup configured around its website's requirements.
The university shared its feedback after the issue was resolved:
“The migration was completed smoothly, and the website accessibility issue was resolved promptly. We were satisfied with the technical team’s understanding of the issue and appreciated the support provided throughout the migration and remediation process. The team handled the situation professionally and successfully restored full website accessibility.”
Why the Solution Worked
There were two separate problems, so the solution had to address both.
The incorrect network configuration was preventing some users from reaching the website. Correcting that configuration restored access from the affected IP addresses.
The resource congestion was a separate issue. Moving the website to a VPS provided the resources needed for the site, while web server and database optimization improved how those resources were used.
The previous provider had not resolved the issues. After the migration, our team had direct control of the server environment, allowing us to correct the network configuration, optimize the website's server and database setup, and strengthen the server security in the same environment.
